Agra

Agra is a city placed on the near of the river Yamuna in the northern state of U.P., India. It is 378 kmtrs west of the state capital, Lucknow, 206 kmtrs south of the national capital New Delhi and 125 kmtrs north of Gwalior. With a residents of 1,686,993 (2013 est.), it is 1 of the most populous cities in U.P. & the 19th most populous in India. Agra can also refer to the governmental district that has its main office in Agra city. It is a big tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most greatly the Tāj Mahal, Agra Fort & Fatehpūr Sikrī, all 3 of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra is combinded on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit, along with Delhi & Jaipur.
The city was 1st mentioned in the epic Mahābhārata, where it was known as Agrevaṇa .Legend ascribes the colonizing of the city to Raja Badal Singh, king Sikarwar Rajput , whose castle, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present fort. However, the 11 century Persian poet Mas'ūd Sa'd Salmān writes of a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra, then controlled by the Shāhī King Jayapala, by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni. It was mentioned for the first time in 1080 AD when a Ghaznavide force arrested it. Sultan Sikandar Lodī was the 1st to move his capital from Delhi to Agra in 1506. He governed the country from here & Agra affected the attention of the 2nd capital. He died in 1517 & his son, Ibrāhīm Lodī, remained in power there for 9 more years & several palaces, wells & a mosque were built by him in the fort during his period. Finally being crushed at the Battle of Panipat in 1526. Between 1540 -1556, Afghans, beginning with Sher Shah Suri ruled the area. It attain glory as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1556 - 1658.

Jaipur

Jaipur is the biggest & capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan in Northern India. It was founded on 18 Nov. 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the king of Amer after whom the city is named. As of 2011, the city has a residents of approx six million, making it the 10th most populous city in the country. Jaipur is also famous as the Pink City of India.
Based at a distance of 260 kilometers from New Delhi, it forms a part of the Golden Triangle tourist circuit along with Agra (240 kilometers). Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in India & serves as a gateway to other tourist destinations in Rajasthan such as Jaisalmer, Jodhpur (Sun City) & Udaipur. The city of Jaipur was established in 1727 by Jai Singh II, the Raja of Amer who ruled from 1688 -1743. He prepared to shift his capital from Amer, 11 km from Jaipur to contain the increasing population & increasing scarcity of water. Jai Singh consulted several books on architecture & architects while planning the design of Jaipur. Under the architectural guidance of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, Jaipur was planned situated on the principles of Vastu shastra & Shilpa Shastra. The manufacture of the city began in 1727 & took 4 years to complete the major roads, offices & palaces. The city was divided into 9 blocks, 2 of which contained the state buildings & palaces, with the remaining 7 allotted to the public. Huge ramparts were built, pierced by 7 fortified gates.
